The History Behind
the Numbers

Numerology isn't a modern invention. The system Noomaya uses traces back over 2,500 years, to a philosopher who believed numbers were the fundamental language of the universe.

Pythagoras and the philosophy of number

Pythagoras (570-495 BCE) is the origin point. His school in Croton, Greece, didn't just study mathematics, it treated numbers as sacred. Each number carried a distinct quality, a vibration that shaped reality. The idea that your birth date encodes something meaningful about your nature begins here.

Transmission through the ages

Pythagorean ideas passed through Plato's Timaeus, into Neoplatonism, and through Renaissance humanism. Numerology evolved alongside astronomy, philosophy, and theology, consistently present in traditions that took seriously the idea that pattern and meaning are inseparable.

Modern systematization

In the early 1900s, L. Dow Balliett formalized the Life Path calculation as it exists today. Juno Jordan expanded her work mid-century, popularizing master numbers (11, 22, 33) and establishing the Pythagorean reduction system that Noomaya uses.

What Noomaya takes from this tradition

Noomaya applies this 2,500-year-old framework as a structured tool for self-reflection, not as predictive science, but as a system that many people find surprisingly accurate when applied to their own life. The goal is clarity, not prophecy.
